Graduate Program

The Master of Arts in English at the College of Charleston is a joint program offered in conjunction with the Citadel graduate college.  Students in the program take thirty-six hours of advanced coursework in British and American literature, with options to take courses in English language, composition and rhetoric, world literature, and related topics.

English graduate classes at the College of Charleston are small and collegial, and professors are friendly and accessible.  Students who enroll in our program receive a rigorous, yet personalized education that gives them a good general background in literary studies whatever their future plans may be.

After earning their M.A. degrees, our graduates take up a variety of careers. Many go on to Ph.D. programs and to careers teaching in four-year universities. Others teach in high schools or community colleges, while others find work in fields such as publishing, public relations, technical writing, or college administration.
